[WELL THAT SURE WAS HELLISH. It's too bad Zelgadis's sword wasn't the murder weapon or else Childe would've had an excuse to keep it longer
Whenever they cross paths, he'll give Mr. Rockman a little nod in greeting.]
I'd say that counted as misery and damnation. [He sounds tired but kind of amused, in that way where a situation is so garbage you can really only laugh about it.]
[Hey Childe, checking out one of the new places? So is Zel. Very cool that they're in the same place at the same time, just in time to get dumped in a memory-hole.
a memory starts playing on the screen immediately.]
MEMORY: THE RED PRIEST'S BLESSING
It's now or never.
Shortly after nightfall, you enter the room in the church where your captive hangs bound. In a swift motion, you slash at the ropes with your sword. You toss the sorceress her things, and remove her gag. She tries to ask why you're doing this, but there's no time to explain. You tell her to follow, and the two of you flee the church in the moonlight, running into the woods.
Then... you stop.
Something crimson emerges from the darkness to block the forest path. You mutter under your breath, "Rezo."
"What exactly do you think you're doing, Zelgadis?" the red priest asks. "You've followed orders admirably up until now... but this? This is an act of treason."
"Then I am a traitor!" you yell in desperation. "I cannot do this anymore!"
"Oh, is that so?" Rezo asks quietly. "I'm very sorry to hear that. You're turning against me, then? Have you forgotten that I made you? I blessed you with your power..."
"Blessed me?" you interject. "I will admit, Lord Rezo, that I wanted power. But I never asked to become a chimera! I never wanted... this!"
"One has to be willing to make sacrifices. And I gave you what you asked for, in the most direct way possible. If you had something else in mind, you ought to have specified. In any case, I won't tolerate impudence. This ends here."
You grunt, then move suddenly, circling behind the girl and grabbing hold.
"Wh-- hey-- watch what you're grabbing there!" she shrieks. As she protests, you move forward together.
Rezo grins, amused. "Do you intend to use that girl as a shield? Fool, do you presume I have guilt about going through her to get to you?"
"No, I don't!" Your voice quivers, and you compensate by shouting even louder. "Using the girl as a shield won't help me, which is why I'm not making her my shield..."
You raise her body high in the air.
I'm making her my arrow!
You launch the girl at Rezo the same way one would hurl a ball in shot put.
[this is so embarrassing he just has a hand over his face.]
... He was a man who knew my abilities even better than I did. My only hope was to use a tactic that defied common sense -- something he wouldn't anticipate.
[Zel's sitting on the steps of the Museum, gazing out in tired contemplation at the fog and the houses that litter the peaceful island of Memory Lane...]
If there's only one thing I'm certain of at this point, it's this...
[THE MUSEUM... help. Childe never actually made it inside of here I don't think but now he doesn't want to because the animals on this island are WEIRD and perverted or w/e
That makes him laugh, though it's a tired sound, because he's always tired on trial days. LORDT.]
I suppose that shouldn't come as a surprise by this point.
Well, if the trend continues, the next island should be better... [...] ...but it'll also lead to some ridiculous headache about a week from now that will make us hate that one too.
[Zel's in one of the gigantic residences in the neighbourhood, looking out at the gigantic items strewn all over the floor. It's like the start of a Katamari level, probably.]
This place is a mess.
[The small black kitten with him sees the potential in this chaos, though. She immediately latches on to a dangling piece of way-too-large thread and starts climbing up.]
[HELLO ZEL... it is a good thing you are made of rock and probably not bleeding?? Unless I missed that he was like missing his head or something. But he is coming to see how Zel is doing!! Where is he, what's the state of him.]
[yeah his head is gone. basically a stone dullahan now.
no he's in one piece. he's sitting out in the garden, still wearing a tattered white coat, just resting on the grass under the shade of a giant mushroom. as torn up as his sleeves and pants are, it doesn't look like there's any bleeding happening. he looks calmer now, too -- it looks like most of the tension from earlier has lifted. one could almost think he was sleeping, but he looks up when childe draws near.]

... I feel stupider for having taken any part in that circus of a trial.

Childe takes a minute to process this?? A lot just happened. Eventually:]
She flew really far... [why is that what he took from this]

That's smart thinking! [THIS IS WHY HE DIDN'T BRING ALL HIS WEAPONS TO TRIAL the element of surprise is important okay]

They could've at least cleaned up after themselves.

Maybe something happened here.
[maybe this is a really big crime scene and they just can't tell from this perspective.]

We'd better not have to have a trial about it.
